It’s almost Christmas and while I hope all of you will be surrounded by family and happiness I know that this time of year can be stressful for many of us for many different reasons so I thought I’d give a little inspiration to keep your head up, smile and embrace the love. Just last week I went to a pet sitting meet and greet. The dog jumped up on me… and then again, and again, and again. All the while his human dad was scolding him to stop. To be honest, I like it! My dog does it and I sure as heck didn’t train her to stop. My father in law calls my Macy “Tigger” because she suddenly grows springs in her legs any time someone comes for a visit. Here’s a dirty little secret – I may scold her for jumping on people in front of said people but I DON’T ACTUALLY GIVE A S**T! I dont because I know that’s her way of telling them she loves them or that she’s excited to get to know them so that she can love them! Is it really so bad to be loved? Okay, okay if you’re all gussied up I get it – no jumping. As a pet owner yourself, even cat owners I’m sure you love walking in your house to loving furballs who want to kiss you, snuggle you and rub all over you. It’s a great feeling to be loved. Our pets ARE our children and many of us thoroughly enjoy the slobbery kisses and the paws in our faces. If your dog is a jumper like my Macy, know that he’s not the only one. I see 10-15 different dogs on a daily basis, all with their very own personalities and every single one of them either jumps on me or tries to crawl up my legs upon arrival. Every.Single.One. If they didn’t I would be concerned. I would check the color of their gums and the scruff on their necks to make sure they aren’t dehydrated. Jumping dogs and cats who rub their bodies all over you are normal! That’s what they do because they love us! Wouldn’t it be an amazing world if humans reacted the same way every time someone walks through the door? Imagine this…even better, try this…. your friend walks in your home, you race as fast as you possibly can from across the room, jump up and down in excitement, wiggle your butt, lick her face and then give her a gigantic bear hug!! What a wonderful world that would be. So pet parents, i’m asking you this – ditch the stress, remember that love is shown in many different ways. Embrace the love from ALL beings in ALL forms in ALL ways from ALL directions. Merry Christmas everybody and Happy New Year!
